Thursday

New Location Reece

This is the new location where we will be filming our preformance. This theatre is ideal as once all the chair and tables have been cleared we are left with a large hall with red carpets which makes the room seem feminine. We also have the large projector so that we could do the projection scenes.












Major Changes

Due to unexpected changes that have occurred we have had to change our artist from a band to a single female singer. This is due the band being unable to act for us due their jobs and clash of schedules. However the song requires a bold female singer. Lily Budd had opted to be the actor. This does not change the artist image we are trying to portray, if anything this makes it more female orientated. We are still trying to achieve a artistic, independent and creative artist. This would also conform to the indie genre. The location we will be filming the performance has been chosen as a large lecture theatre that would be cleared out, with a large grand piano in the centre.

Due to the unexpected changes in with the band and the location we have had to slightly change the performance part of the music video. However the narrative remains exactly the same.

Group Meeting 24/11/2011

Today we received bad news from the band that they were unable to preform at the dates we needed and the only time they were all available would be too late for us, as they had personal matters and jobs that could not be schedule around. We have had to quickly re-think some of our shots and ideas however we were able to keep the concept and the artist image the same.

Group meeting 22/11/11

We have come together to discuss that the band are able to be filmed this week and the narrative will be shot soon after. We have also decided that we will need to take a task each of either the website or digi pack, so i will be taking the role of the designs of the digi pack and obed will be doing the main part of the website.

Digi pack ideas- 1

This set up of our digi pack is our first idea.
                                                
                                                               We have both decided the front cover that is posted on the blog
                                                                      will be the final one we are going to use.


I wanted to make the layout of the songs as interesting as possible so
thought of adding the tree used on the front cover, and minimize
some of the leaves and write the song names along the branches. 



                                            
                                                        For the inside covers of our digi pack we wanted on one side a band
                                                                 photo on primrose hill where they play throughout the video, with the skyline                    
                                                          and instrument in the shot however we do not know the positioning.
As well as having the band photo, I then thought a photo of the
actors during the narrative would be nice as well, however I
planned for this photo to go where the CD will lay, merging
two photos of both the actors faces looking into each others
eyes but faded into a sun.

Group Meeting - 14/11/11

In todays group meeting we had to discuss about using our back-up plan as the location we had initially planned to use was unavailable due to the building being in use by prison officials. Having done our back-up plan we were able to swiftly move on with out any problems. We also set a date to film our narrative scenes which is on 18/11/11 this may change as we need to discuss with our actors.

Location Reece

To keep to the song lyrics and title myself and Obed thought the best location to choose would be outside with the band playing in front of a view of London. This location is the rooftop of a prison and have let the band preform there before.

Album Cover - Idea 2

This is our second idea for the album cover design. The website would follow the same vintage/eroded theme. It represents the band's artistic and vintage image. The image directly links in with the name and message of the music video which shows consistency of artist motifs.

This image was created in Photoshop. I used certain effects such as multiply, and the font 'Bleeding Cowboys' for the band name. The concept shows a vintage and slighty eroded image, that conforms to conventions of indie and shows the band as artistic and abstract.

Digipack Inspirations


These images above are some album covers that have given us inspiration when it comes to designing our own digipack and album cover. When designing our album covers we will have to consider whether or not the design conforms to the conventions of Indie rock music. We will also have to make sure we portray the artist image and promote them in a unique and original way. Indie music is seen to be artistic and abstract so this must be reflected through our digipack, so it could have bits of photography or abstract images that gets across the image of the artist. The conventions of Indie music in general means that we don't HAVE to use pictures of the band but have images that represent them and their image. These are the things we will be looking into when coming up with ideas.

Florence Welch
The artist that resembled our chosen band is 'Florence and the Machine'. Florence and the Machine have many similarities with our band (Siren), Both singers are female and the genre is very similar as they both specialize in alternative/indie rock. I will be researching into the different marketing strategies used by the record label that supports Florence and the Machine and comment as to whether it is a desirable,expensive or a lucrative strategy. Florence and the Machine is a very famous and mainstream artist that is currently signed to Island Universal Records which support many other upcoming artists that feature on MySpace. Florence and the Machine are a Indie rock, Alternative rock, Experimental and Indie pop artist which we can relate too because the song we have chosen is Indie rock. 

Their are many marketing strategies used to promote Florence and the machine. The first is the release of her new album 'Ceremonials' which is the first page that is displayed on her website. DOing this makes sure that everyone that wants to visit her website can see the promotional page and people immediately know what is happening. This is a lucrative and desirable method.




She also have most of her recent music videos on her website which a relatively easy thing to do but it allows her fans to have a permanent place to check up on for her latest music videos.

Her new alum cover is also plastered throughout her website as a marketing/promotional strategy. Doing this is not expensive but it is desirable.









Florence and the Machine are based in the UK however currently they don't have any current gigs or live shows but their is an up to date schedule on her website that allows her fans to see live show dates. 
 A huge part of her campaign is her merchandising section. A whole new website is dedicated to the sale of memorabilia that fans can wear or use which will advertise the artist. This is a expensive and lucrative method but it will advertise the artist through her fans.








The website is an expensive but a very desirable method of marketing as everyone now goes online to check on anything they need. The website captures the artist image and promotes that  through the website. The artist is conveys and abstract image which shows that she is creative and artistic. 

She has a gallery section on her website that allows her fans to keep up-to-date with her and it is cheap way to promote her as most of her pictures are taken at live shows.

Group Meeting...Action Plan

In today's lesson Lily was not able to make however we do still keep in contact. I will working on possible costume ideas and locations for filming. I will also start to work on the timeline and continue with the storyboard.

Marketing Strategy Research

Which institutions are behind the band/artist and in what way is this relevant?
The record label that are behind Florence and the machine is Island Universal Records which sign many other upcoming artist or bands, mainly from MySpace. They have recently signed a few Indie and Alternative genre artists. This is a good deal for Florence and the Machine as it means that the record label is familiar with her style of music and can support and promote her appropriately and relevantly.



What functions does the website serve for the band/artist?
The website creates awareness for the artist and her music, it also promotes and advertises the release of new albums. It allows fans to keep up with the artist through Facebook, MySpace and other social networking sites. The website also helps create an image for Florence and the Machine. The website also has an online store where merchandise can be sold.

Describe the band/artists brand identity and explain how the website is used to construct this?
The brand identity of Florence and the Machine is portrayed through the website by various aspects of the website. Such as the artistic and abstract pictures on the top left-hand corner of each page. And the picture of lungs that is actually a menu. The vintage style background is used to also show her as creative and open-minded.

Who is the target audience for the band/artist and how do you know?
The target audience for Florence and the Machine seem to other artistic people. People with a creative flare such as young aspiring artists in and field of work. However the singer is a head-strong female which is more focussed towards females.

How is the website designed to appeal to the target audience?
The website is designed to attract the target audience through its visual themes and style. The vintage 'old paper' background would sets a creative mood to the website, and features such as leather lungs as a menu, images of abstract objects that relates to each page on the top-lend hand corner, and the old and vintage style photos of Florence would attract other artistic and creative people.

The camera used in this music video is set so that the viewers do not see the music video as anything ordinary or what they have seen before. They are trying to make the video seem unusual and unpredictable. The camera shoots different part of peoples bodies and the footage is edited overlapped. The editing of the video is not to try and fool the audience they are purely just trying to make the video interesting and fun to watch.

The camera needs to get the composition the same in every shot so that when editing if not exact, everything will match, this means all the 'actors' will need to be in the same place. This is the most important thing in the video as this is the main part during the music video and the most eye catching.

Here there are 3 sections of footage within one frame 
even though this is not a human body the parts are 
meant to represent a humans body.


In this shot as on of the feet are tapping its moving the slide 
underneath it down, to change slides.

mouth is lip syncing, however you can see the mans top
